We aim is to provide the most professional service that we possibly can. We are also consumers and we have set up our business to offer and treat our clients how we like to be treated.
Our Standard:
We use the best materials for application and install those materials correctly in accordance with the relevant British Standard BS6229:2003 Roof, Slate and Tiling and BS5534:2003 Built-up Felt Roof. In some cases there is not a BS but a ‘Code of Practice’, the main two are the Osma Guide to Guttering and the Lead Sheet Association Manual.
Our staff:
Our staff members have completed or are working towards a City & Guilds level qualification in at least one roofing discipline, Roof Slate & Tiling, Built-up Felt or Leadwork. We also regularly attend training workshops in Health & Safety, Manufactures Material Training and Compliance.
How We Operate:
We are a small business and it is not always possible to answer the telephone when you call. If you leave a message we will call you back within 24hours. We always arrange a convenient time to visit your property to evaluate the property and work.
Our surveyor will ask if the roof is leaking. If it is he will want to see where the water has ingressed, and we may need to gain access to the loft space. If you are looking for a new roof covering our surveyor will always ask to see inside the loft to inspect the insulation and timber structure. Once our surveyor has inspected internally he will direct his attention towards the external and if necessary put up a ladder to gain access to the roof.
We understand that it is difficult to see what is wrong or what is required and therefore take digital photographs of the property at that time to show you and keep for our records.
Our surveyor will then have a conversation with you to discuss the problem, our solution, the work involved and agree a specification. Based on this conversation our surveyor will then write a detailed specification & quotation, which you will normally receive within 7 working days. Sometimes we provide more than one quotation if for example more than on type of material can be used. We can also provide samples of the materials that we propose to use.
Our specification & quotation will include labour, material, waste disposal and if necessary scaffolding.
Work On-Site:
You have received and accepted our quotation. All roofing works are weather dependant and it is difficult to actually schedule the work. Normally you do not need to be at home while we are carrying out the work. We will arrange a convenient time to complete the work, which is subject to weather and will call you regularly with an update to the exact start date.
Once your project is started we will not start another project until yours is completed. Normally the work is carried out in such a way as to keep the property watertight. Our staff will act in a professional manner at all times. You like to see what work has been completed so we photograph the work as works proceed, normally providing copies upon invoice.
Payment:
As we provide a quotation the price quoted is the price you pay. Sometimes the value of the work is more than £5,000.00 and at this point we will arrange with you staged payments. We will never ask for money up front unless non-returnable specially made material is needed such as a Skylight or Aluminium Guttering.
We request that you reciprocate our trust by adhering to our terms of payment. Upon completion of the work we will raise an invoice, that is payable in full upon presentation. Payment can be made by cheque payable to ‘Toucan Roofing Ltd’ or bank transfer.
All materials used remain the property of ‘Toucan Roofing Ltd’ until the work is paid for in full. Toucan Roofing Ltd reserves the right to charge interest and/or late payment fees on any invoices that remain unpaid after 28 days.
Guarantee:
As a TrustMark registered company we must either give or offer a 10 year insurance backed guarantee for any work costing more than £250.00 + VAT for properties that have sole occupancy. In accordance with this requirement your work will attract a minimum 10-year insurance backed guarantee from Quality Assured National Warranties (QANW Ltd), the premium of which we will pay. We are authorized by Redland and Icopal contractor and can offer manufacturers insurance backed guarantees up to 20 years.

If you would like a reference this can easily be arranged. First a recent client who has had similar work undertaken in your area needs to be contacted. They will be asked if they are happy to speak with you and may even allow you to visit the property. The clients details will then be forwarded to you, for you to contact at your leisure.
Insurance:
We are fully insured with £10,000,000.00 of Public and Product Liability and £10,000,000.00 of Employers Liability Insurance, please click here to view our documents.
This level of insurance is normal for our industry, however, sometimes this level of insurance is not sufficient for example if we are working over 4 storeys. If this is the case we can arrange additional cover for specific projects.
